The 16 year old Iverson led his school team, the Bruins, to state championships in both sports in the same year and was named 1993 Virginia State player of the year for basketball and football. Despite not being able to play his senior year (see background below), "Ive" was heavily recruited and ended up playing at Georgetown University under the tutilage of coach John Thompson. In his freshman season, Allen was named Big East Rookie of the Year and Big East Defensive Player of the Year. In his sophomore season, he was once again named Big East Defensive Player of the Year and was also named to the Associated Press First All-American team. After his 2nd season at Georgetown, "The Answer" ended his extraordinary college career and entered the 1995-96 NBA Draft. He was selected 1st overall by the Philadelphia 76ers. Allen took Rookie of the Year honours in his first pro season. In his 5 year NBA career, he has earned the honours of being named to the First and Second All-NBA teams, several All-Star teams, Second All-Defensive team, All-Star game MVP. But Allen had his best season this year as he captured the scoring title and was voted as the league MVP for 2000-01.
